Regulatory compliance to RoHS/Reach regulations can task your creativity
and patience to their limits. The management of the base materials data and
associated test results is, at best, a time consuming and tedious effort. The
timely creation of material declarations such as the IPC 1752, are difficult
with multiple requests being generated by multiple companies, each with their
own report formats.
Even if there is some form of internally created automated process, you
may find that you are still spending the majority of your time tracking down
information from your suppliers and testing houses to keep your data up-to-date.
There has to be a better way and there is.
At the end of 2008 and the start of 2009, a steering committee of QA and
Compliance Managers representing 5 of the Silicon Valley top Chip companies met
with the management team of ProCM to discuss their most frustrating compliance
related issues. It was clear that from the start that the management of the base
materials was time consuming and duplicative effort. The solution would need to
be a common repository of the base material supplier data that could be accessed
by all users. This database would reduce the current manual processes and would
improve the quality of the data that each company was maintaining.
It was also agreed that once the database was established, the ability to link
the database to a BOM would enable the user to automatically generate
certificates of compliance in any format including the IPC 1752.
With initial seed money being provided by members of the steering
committee, ProCM set out to create a product that could meet the requirements
set forth by the committee. ProCM, working with its flag ship customers,
created the Greenhub CMS™ tool, a tool that is available today.
The Greenhub CMS™ is comprised of two elements that are combined to
provide a seamless solution to your RoHS and REACH management and reporting. The
two elements are the Materials Data Service (MDS) Module for the management of
supplier data and the Product Declaration Service (PDS) Module for the creation
of Product Compliance Declarations with support for IPC 1752 and custom formats.
